This wooded parcel 4 miles NW of High Springs in south Columbia County has huge hardwood trees, many 80-100 feet tall. Many of them are hickories, and there''s a very large rare pignut hickory. The entry lane is on the west end, and on the east end of the rectangular lot is a riverbed, long dried up. Locals call it "The old dried up riverbed." The source of water when it was flowing was a spring a mile or so upstream. It went south to the Santa Fe River, but who knows how many centuries ago it was an active stream. Today the riverbed is a pathway for wild turkey and deer, and along the banks are some very old live oaks. The botanical diversity of this forest makes it a remnant of the times before much human intervention.
