The following is taken from the Cade B. Allen, A Life Remembered
" During the economically depressed 1930’s and up to 1941 when the United States
entered WWII Cade B. Allen continued to build on 39 and 40th Avenues west of 9th
Street. All of the 12 houses built outside of Allendale were constructed on contract for
individual owners during this period. Because of his reputation for honesty and quality
of construction he was able to continue building while other builders and developers had
little or no work." ” Scott Taylor Hartzell in his book Remembering St. Petersburg, quoted
retired local architect, Blanchard Jolly, as saying about Cade Allen “he built quality when
we didn’t know what quality was”.
