Mid-century Modern in Lido Shores. In the early 1950s, property developer Philip Hiss teamed up with architect Paul Rudolph to create one of the 20th century's most iconic houses, The Umbrella House in Sarasota, Florida. The house in the community of Lido Shores is an example of how modernism can be applied in a subtropical, Florida Gulf Coast context. This home and others nearby became known as the Sarasota School of Architecture. Philip Hiss, a visionary developer, came to Lido Shores to create modern homes for a semi-tropical climate. Hiss inspired Paul Rudolph, Edward Seibert, and the Zimmermans to do some of their best work. In 1959, Hiss Associates, Inc. built this home as the "Mrs. Adelia Dolan House". Sliding glass panels open 85% of the living area to the outside space. The lanai and pool balance the L-shaped house plan to form a square. This property has been well maintained and updated while preserving its modern architectural characteristics. The home offers three bedrooms with large customized closets, two updated baths, original terrazzo floors, and an updated kitchen. Lido Shores Association provides private and gated beach access within the community.
Property is being sold As-Is with right to inspect.
